Is it true that the British used to ban manufacturing in the USA?

and other colonies of theirs like India...so that they the raw materials had to be shipped back to britain and manufactured there?...so that they could create jobs at home in their own land?Is it true that the British used to ban manufacturing in the USA?
No, but the British did put tight controls on colonial trade and at one point required goods to be shipped to England before being shipped to another country. Mercantilism faded over the course of the 18th century, at the end of which England was the first and only truly industrialized nation in the world. They were pretty big on free trade at that point and were considered the ';workshop of the world';. What you're talking about sounds like a mix of these two points in history. Is it true that the British used to ban manufacturing in the USA?
Yes, it whas called ';Mercantilism'; and it failed, like all protectionist economic policies have failed through all history.

Free trade is competitive but it insures the most opportunity and prosperity to the largest number of civilians.

We seem to have to learn that over and over again because we elect politicians who can't read history books.
